Mackarel Balls

  • 2 cans Grace Mackarel in Brine, drained
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 pimentos, chopped
  • Chive, minced
  • Chardon Beni, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 1/4 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs (optional)
  • Oil for frying


Yield: 10-12 balls

Drain Grace Mackarel in Brine. Flake or grind in food processor until a paste is formed. Season mackarel with lime juice, chopped onion, pimentos, chive, chardon beni and garlic. Add 1/4 cup bread crumbs and 1 beaten egg and combine well.
Roll the mixture into balls. Beat the second egg in a small bowl and have the remaining 1 cup bread crumbs in a separate bowl. Coat each ball with egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.
Heat oil in a frying pan and fry until brown.

Serve with tamarind sauce or tomato dip.
