Coca-Cola Chicken Wings
This Coca-Cola Chicken Wings recipe offers a mouthwatering fusion of sweet, savory, and umami flavors. The wings are first browned to perfection, then simmered in a rich sauce made with Coca-Cola, soy sauce, fish sauce, and aromatic spices like ginger, garlic, and optional star anise and chili. As the sauce thickens, it caramelizes the wings, creating a glossy, flavorful coating. Finished with a garnish of sesame seeds and green onions, these tender and juicy wings are a perfect balance of sweetness and spice, making them an irresistible treat for any gathering!
- 2 ½ lbs Chicken Wings
- 1 can Coca-Cola Original Taste
- 2 tbsp. Cooking Oil
- 1 tbsp. Cooking Wine
- 1 tsp. Fish Sauce
- 2 tbsp. Light Soy Sauce
- ½ tbsp. Dark Soy Sauce
Aromatics & Spices
- 2 slices Ginger
- 5 cloves Garlic
- 1 Star Anise Optional
- 3 Dried Red Chilis Optional
Garnish (Optional)
- 1 tsp. Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 1 stalk Green Onions Sliced
If you have a large pan with a lid, these work the best.
Prepare your wings by cutting into wings and drums if not separated yet. Pat dry wings so they do not splatter in the oil.
Heat your pan to medium-high, add oil, and brown the chicken wings on both sides, about 2-3 minutes. If the wings cannot all lay flat in the pan to brown up, brown in batches, and add the wings back in once the batch is all browned.
Turn your pan to medium, and combine the Coca-Cola, cooking wine, fish sauce, light and dark soy sauce, ginger, and garlic. Add the star anise and chilis if using.
Simmer on medium for 15 minutes with the lid on.
After 15 minutes, turn the heat to medium high/high so the sauce can reduce and thicken. *The sauce will continue to thicken a bit more as it cools.
Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if using.
